Our U-shaped salt bridge is a classic laboratory component used in electrochemical cells (like Galvanic or Voltaic cells) to connect two half-cells while keeping the electrolytes separate.
Function & Purpose
Ion Exchange: It allows the flow of ions to maintain electrical neutrality in each beaker. Without it, charge would build up, and the reaction would stop instantly.
Circuit Completion: It completes the electrical circuit by providing a path for internal charge flow.
Prevention of Mixing: The U-shape and the gel inside prevent the two different metal salt solutions from mixing mechanically, which would cause a direct, uncontrolled reaction.
