Our Sealed PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) electrochemical cell is a specialized laboratory vessel with a maximum chemical resistance and an airtight environment. Unlike standard glass cells, these models are designed for experiments involving highly aggressive chemicals that would otherwise etch or contaminate glass.

Highlights:

  • Universal Chemical Inertness: PTFE can withstand almost all strong acids (including hydrofluoric acid and aqua regia), strong bases, and organic solvents.

  • High Temperature Stability: These cells typically operate reliably from -100°C to 250°C, making them suitable for high-temperature electrolysis.

  • Superior Gas-Tightness: Utilizing fluorine rubber O-rings and threaded PTFE components, these cells maintain strict anaerobic or specific gas atmospheres

  • Electrical Insulation: PTFE has an extremely high resistivity ensuring that the cell body does not interfere with delicate electrochemical measurements.

Typical Applications:

  • Gas analysis: PTFE is preferred as it is stable and prevents the leaching of silica from glass which could poison catalysts.

  • Fuel Cell & Battery Research: Used for testing membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) and high-loading lithium-ion battery electrodes.

  • Corrosion Analysis: Ideal for studying materials in ASTM grade corrosive environments or concentrated sulfuric acid.
