Our platinum disk electrode (PDE) is a high-precision electrochemical tool used as a working electrode in analytical chemistry. It consists of a pure platinum disk embedded in a chemically inert insulating shroud, exposing only the flat circular face to the electrolyte.

Highlights:

  • Wide Potential Window: It allows for a broad range of voltage sweeps without the electrode itself reacting, especially in the positive (oxidizing) range.

  • High Catalytic Activity: Excellent for electron transfer reactions, particularly hydrogen evolution and oxygen reduction.

  • Inertness: It does not oxidize or dissolve in most acidic or basic plating baths, ensuring the data reflects the sample, not the electrode.

Common use:

  1. Cyclic Voltammetry (CV): Studying the redox properties of chemicals or the efficiency of a new electrolytic tank setup.

  2. Rotating Disk Electrode (RDE): The electrode is spun at high speeds to control the flow of ions to the surface, allowing researchers to measure the exact kinetics of the electroplating process.

  3. Sensor Development: Used as a substrate for coating other materials (like polymers or enzymes) to create specialized medical or environmental sensors.
