Cyanuric acid is a chemical compound widely used as a chlorine stabilizer in outdoor swimming pools to protect free chlorine from degradation by the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Beyond pool maintenance, cyanuric acid serves as a versatile chemical intermediate in manufacturing, e.g:

1.) Disinfectants: It is a key precursor to N-chlorinated cyanurates, such as trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) and sodium dichloroisocyanurate (SDIC), which are powerful disinfectants and biocides used in water treatment and cleaning products.

2.) Polymers and Resins: Due to its trifunctional structure, it is used as a precursor to crosslinking agents for polyurethane resins and polyisocyanurate plastics.

3.) Fire Retardants: When combined with other chemicals, it is used in the production of flame inhibitors and fire retardants for textiles and other materials.

4.) Agriculture and Dyes: It finds uses in the agricultural sector as a nitrogen stabilizer in fertilizers and as an intermediate in the synthesis of certain photographic chemicals and dyes. Cyanuric acid alone is considered to have low acute toxicity in humans and animals, and most is quickly absorbed and excreted in urine. However, direct contact with the powder form can cause minor eye, skin, or respiratory irritation.
