Our platinum dish (often called an evaporating dish) is made of pure Platinum (Purity > 99.95%). It is a shallow, wide laboratory vessel designed for high-heat evaporation, chemical digestion, and sample ashing. It shares the same elite properties as the platinum crucible, but its shallow geometry provides a larger surface area to speed up liquid evaporation.
Primary Functions:
Rapid Evaporation: The wide rim allows solvents to escape quickly when heating samples on a water bath or hot plate.
Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) Digestion: Used to dissolve silica or glass samples. Since HF eats through glass and porcelain, platinum is one of the few materials that remains completely unaffected.
Incineration and Ashing: Used to burn off organic materials to analyze residual inorganic matter at temperatures exceeding 1,000°C.
